Reconstruction Wraps Up At GEF-1

Engineered Construction has been working at GEF-1, a state office building in Downtown Madison, since it suffered a fire on May 15th.  The four story building, located at 201 E. Washington Ave., houses approximately 1000 employees in both the Department of Workforce Development and the Department of Children and Families.

The fire, which was ruled accidental by faulty electrical, caused extensive damage to the fourth floor with smoke and water damage throughout the remainder of the building.  ECI was involved in the removal of debris throughout the entire 43,600 square foot space as well as the reconstruction of the damaged floor which was approximately 15,400 square feet.

Construction remained on schedule with many of the displaced employees moving back into the building at the beginning of August.  Reconstruction efforts on the fourth floor are wrapping up now, which will allow the last of the employees to return to the building starting next week.  GEF-1 reopened to the public on September 2nd.
