Steensland House To Be Relocated
The Steensland House, currently owned by Bethel Lutheran Church and located on North Carroll Street, was built in 1896 for Halle Steensland, a leader in the progressive movement. In 1974 it was designated a local landmark and it’s also on the National Register of Historical Places. Over time, the surrounding homes were demolished which left the home standing alone surrounded by the church parking lot. The church has wanted to expand for some time but needed a plan for the Steensland House before being able to do so. After much consideration, it has been decided that the Historic Steensland House will be moved to another side of their property which faces West Gorham.
The home, which is around 7,000 square feet will be moved in phases beginning April 15th. Once relocated the home will be renovated to create three apartments. The move, as well as the renovation is being overseen by Engineered Construction.
